Transforming a Star into an Icon

I created a project launch strategy and supported the plan for the album, and officially launched the project. Project clients whose accounts I managed included: Apple Music, Amazon, Walmart.com, Rhapsody, Microsoft, Napster, and others. I served as first point of contact for the clients and last point of delivery for the artists.

Continuum's 2nd single, "Gravity", charted alongside "Waiting on the World to Change," on the Billboard Hot 100 making for two singles from Continuum on the chart at the same time. “Gravity” sold 2x Platinum.*

Takeaway 1: drumroll… approach social media (and everything) with kindness and generosity. It will return to you 10x over.
We’ve all had those ugly feelings: jealousy, wishing we could do none of the work and get all of the results, wishing we could take a break and someone ELSE could edit reels and scan for haters in our comments. Whatever your flavor, it’s hard to tamp those down and return to your favorite @yogitea mantra. But our guiding principle from Day 1 was to look to some of our social media and lifelong heroines: @nikkietutorials and @selenagomez
Even if hot makeup and great music aren’t your thing, they approach everyone with the mentality of kindness and generosity. They did a great @youtube interview on Nikkie’s channel to launch Selena’s new makeup line @rarebeauty and Selena very naturally explained her philosophy when she talked about her collab with megastars @blackpinkofficial :
N: What advice would you give BlackPink on their career?
S: I think I would learn a lot more from them. I like to say that I work hard. What I found when I've spoken to them and met them is that they are extremely disciplined and talented and there isn't anything they wouldn't strive to do.
N: I want to thank you for saying you don't see competition you see it as englarging the [beauty] community, that's a very good mindset. Because at the end of the day a lot of people just see this as numbers and money....
And it's good to see the authentic ones come up.
S: I think that's very sweet of you. I think that I'm very honest about everything. I've even said multiple times that this isn't me putting my name on anything this took two and a half years and I wanted it to be a space. Like I said I work heavily in the mental health community, so I wanted this to me being honest. I believe in my product but it's so exciting to get to work people like yourself who are atists, true artists in that world and it just makes me really excited and i'm open to that. I'm not here to be like "I have everything figured out”

Takeaway 2: trying new stuff can be scary, but so rewarding! As we near the end of this countdown, we proved this one right with our recent contribution to @bakersforchange fundraiser for the wonderful @trevorproject Going in, we had never done any of those cake making skills before, but we knew that donating to a cause we believe in would be worth the journey - and it was. We also mastered a whole set of food coloring and piping skills we never planned on getting around to! Additionally, we re-learned the valuable lesson that standing for what you believe in - even in a way that feels small - can be very big. So many rewards in just one bake. XO The Project

Takeaway 3: Share your process! When we first started we wanted to give you guys our best, shiniest, most polished gems. We wanted to fully think everything out before we posted. After all, some of the mega accounts we adore here seem to do things that way. But we realized they are experts in their chosen fields and we are decidedly amateurs. So their secret sauce was not ours. Ours was dribbling down our chins and needed multiple paper towels to get. So why not share that hilarity behind the scenes and all we were learning in those “failures” (see 4) with you lovely people? And for us, it helped us grow, you guys got to contribute great solutions, and we had more fun together. Maybe that’s the real takeaway - more fun together.

Takeaway 4: Don’t be afraid to try new things -or - Cyndi Lauper all day! Some will fail but that is ultimately how you succeed. The GREAT @cyndilauper herself guest starred on @projectrunwaybravo - another great project 😉 and there she said the following life changing quote:
“Every failure I’ve ever had has been part of my success, so just remember that”
Cyndi! We have! Short of getting it tattooed on some butts and foreheads, we might take up needlepoint next to get that into our heads properly. #perfectionists OUT!

Takeaway 5: Success is not a Zero Sum Game. We think this applies to Instagram and to life. Think about that one for a minute! We think @bakersforchange proves this big time - we had a great time raising funds for @trevorproject last week and will continue to raise awareness. We have also been helped along by some of our heroes in this space and they weren’t diminished by that. We’ve also gained a lot by reaching out to many of you. Hopefully we can continue to pay it forward. Thanks again to everyone who did that for us.

Challenge 30: 3 Tiered Wedding Cake! Thank you all for your patience these last few days. Behind the scenes we over-night @ups (thank you Chris at UWS location!!) sent the top tier to Toronto from NYC for the lovely recipient. There were tears of joy on both ends.
This challenge was the ultimate. We went into this project big @foodandpsych stans and will be til the end. We thought her cake looked amazing. But what we learned here is to better understand @ruby.tandoh journey. This was psychologically grueling even without the cameras and time constraints. This is our art, and we love it. To have it judged by you all brings us endless squirm. But we send this strawberry lemon cake to all of you with so much love. This is the last challenge! We’re going to take a bit of a break. In a few days we’ll post our takeaways from the project so stay tuned. We’ll be back sometime for some other project! Maybe after this summer. Come on 2021!
